Welcome to Rafiq. These terms are the agreement between you and Rafiq. By downloading, installing, or using the app, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use Rafiq.
Rafiq is an Android app that helps you live more intentionally by blocking harmful and habit-forming content and by enforcing screen-time limits you set for yourself. It is operated by an individual developer (Altaf) and is governed by the laws of India.

1. Who can use Rafiq
You may use Rafiq if you are at least 15 years old and able to enter into this agreement. If you are under 18, you should have a parent or guardian's permission. You need a compatible Android device (Android 8.1 or newer).
2. Your account
Rafiq offers two ways in:
- Continue without signing in — no account, no email, nothing to remember. Your data stays on this device only, so it will not follow you to a new phone or survive a reinstall.
- Continue with Google — your data syncs to the cloud and comes back when you sign in again with the same Google account. Rafiq never sees your Google password.
Email-and-password sign-in is not offered.
You are responsible for keeping your Google account secure and for activity under your Rafiq account. To sign out, use Settings. Signing out leaves your data in place. To delete your account permanently, use Settings → Account → Delete account, or, if you have uninstalled the app, email rafiqgaurdian@gmail.com from the account's email and we will remove it within 30 days. The full deletion routes are set out at https://rafiq.app/delete-account/.
3. Free trial, subscriptions, and billing
The free trial
Every new user gets a free trial of Rafiq's full premium experience, starting on first launch. During the trial, blocking is strict (enforced) and all premium features are unlocked. We remind you before the trial ends. When it ends, if you have not subscribed, Rafiq simply moves to the free tier — your streaks, settings, and history are kept.
Plans
After the trial you can subscribe to keep premium features:
- Monthly — billed every month, renews automatically until you cancel.
- Annual — billed every year, renews automatically until you cancel, and works out cheaper per month.
Both plans unlock the same features. Prices are shown in your local currency and are set through Google Play; taxes are calculated and shown at checkout.
How billing works
Subscriptions are purchased and charged through Google Play. They renew automatically at the then-current price unless you cancel at least a day before the renewal date. To cancel, open the Google Play app, go to Manage subscriptions, choose Rafiq, and cancel — cancelling inside Rafiq, signing out, or uninstalling does not stop billing. When you cancel, you keep premium access until the end of the period you already paid for.
Refunds
Refunds are handled by Google Play under its standard policy. We do not separately prorate or refund partial periods. If you were charged in error or hit a genuine problem, email rafiqgaurdian@gmail.com with your Google Play order ID and we will do our best to help.
Price changes
If we change subscription prices, we will give you advance notice, and any increase applies only from your next renewal. If you do not accept a new price, cancel before it takes effect.
4. The Accessibility permission
Rafiq's blocking depends on Android's Accessibility Service, and we take that responsibility seriously.
What it is for. Rafiq uses Accessibility to detect adult content (by reading URLs in your browser and text in search fields), to detect short-video feeds like YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels, and to know which app is in the foreground so it can enforce your time limits.
What it reads. The URL in the address bar, text in search fields, the on-screen structure that identifies a Shorts or Reels feed, and which app is open. It ignores password fields and does not read your messages, emails, or page content.
What it never does. Rafiq never stores, logs, or transmits any URL, search term, or screen text. Matching happens in memory on your device and the text is discarded immediately. If a block fires, only its type and time are recorded — never what triggered it.
Your control. Rafiq will not block anything unless you enable Accessibility, and you can turn it off at any time in Android Settings. When it is off, blocking stops and Rafiq will simply invite you to turn it back on.
5. How blocking works
- Free tier — blocks still appear, but they are soft: after a brief pause you can choose to continue.
- Premium and trial — blocks are strict: adult-content blocks hold for a timer you set, app-limit blocks hold until midnight, and short-video blocks require you to leave the feed. An optional PIN adds friction to bypassing them.
Rafiq never permanently locks you out. Every block eventually offers a way forward — a timer, an exit, or the next day — which protects you against false positives and honors your autonomy.
Blocking relies on curated lists and heuristics. We cannot guarantee that every harmful thing is caught or that there are never false positives, and detection for Shorts and Reels can break when those apps change (we push fixes without needing an app update). Rafiq works offline using a bundled list; updates need a connection.
6. Using Rafiq responsibly
Please do not:
- Reverse-engineer, circumvent, or tamper with the blocking, the PIN, or the enforcement mechanisms.
- Misuse the Accessibility permission to capture and export other apps' content.
- Resell or redistribute your subscription or account.
- Use the app to break the law or to defeat controls someone else has legitimately placed on you.
Serious or repeated abuse may lead to suspension or termination of your account.
7. Content and intellectual property
Rafiq includes curated Islamic content — Qur'an verses and dhikr with translations — drawn from public sources and shown with their references. This content, along with the app's design and code, is provided for your personal, non-commercial use and remains the property of Rafiq or its sources. Rafiq does not accept or host any content you create.
8. Third-party services
Rafiq relies on Google Firebase, RevenueCat, Google Play Billing, and Google Sign-In. Your use of those services is also governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for their availability or performance, though Rafiq's own privacy commitments are stricter than these providers require.
9. Privacy
Your privacy is central to Rafiq. What we collect, what we deliberately never collect, and the choices you have are described in full in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms. In short: content matching happens on your device, and what you look at is never stored or sent anywhere.
10. Disclaimers and liability
Rafiq is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that all harmful content will be blocked, that there will be no false positives, or that the service will always be available.
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Rafiq is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses, or for content you saw or actions you took while the app was disabled or bypassed. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Some places do not allow these limits, in which case they may not fully apply to you.
11. Suspension and termination
You can stop using Rafiq at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or end access if you seriously breach these terms, attempt fraud, or misuse the app in a way that harms the service or others. You can appeal any such decision by emailing rafiqgaurdian@gmail.com.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the app evolves or the law requires. We will update the "Last updated" date and, for meaningful changes, let you know inside the app. Continuing to use Rafiq after a change means you accept the revised terms.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and any disputes will be handled by the courts with jurisdiction there. Before any formal action, we ask that you contact us at rafiqgaurdian@gmail.com so we can try to resolve the matter directly.
